Sewage & Effluent Pumps

When waste, or effluent, needs to be pumped to either a sewer system or septic lines, the process is usually facilitated by the use of a sewage or effluent pump.

Sewage and effluent pumps can be used in a domestic household, commercial premises or agricultural locations.

Where a property has been altered, a bathroom plumbing pump may be required to transport waste to the existing sewer system.

Submersible plumbing pumps, from the likes of Little Giant may feature the Pit Plus system. This system is where a pump is encased within its own basin and automatically switches to pump as the basin fills.

Whilst these pumps may feature float operated switches to power up, others are designed for continuous operation.

A pump’s capacity for transferring sewage from a collection area, or basin (particularly where waste needs to be moved upwards) may not be the only requirement of the pump. The pump may also be needed for dewatering, effluent removal and waste water transfer.

In situations where solid waste needs to be liquified, a grinder pump may be required such as those from Saniflo. These will reduce waste from toilets, bathrooms or kitchens, possibly from more than one property, before pumping the waste water to the sewage system.

If a kitchen sink, or laundry outlet waste needs to be transported, a sink-drain pump will eliminate the need for additional plumbing and can often be housed within a cabinet to remain out of sight.
